SUMMARY:I Ate The Props - The Art of Food and Studio Photography
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever seen a mouth-watering photograph on a food blog or in a magazine and thought “I wish I could eat that?” – now you can!  Join us for a fun twist to ‘happy hour’\, as you explore the art of food styling and studio photography using artistic\, delicious items and props as your subject matter. In addition to having a good time\, there is a great deal to learn about photography through the practice of lighting\, styling\, composing\, and shooting food\, as well as the bonus of getting to eat some of the props at the end of the workshop! \nBYO wine and camera – even cell phone cameras can create quality images today.  Experiment with shooting several different types of set-ups with food plates\, glassware and other items to create different moods and impact.  Then take the skills you learned at this workshop to capture images of your own culinary creations\, still lifes and even portraits\, perfect for sharing on social media! \nThis lecture\, demo and hands-on workshop will help you gain confidence as you learn the secrets of lighting\, styling a great composition\, and shooting in the studio; an approach that can be applied to any other topic in photography.  There will be an opportunity to hear about and then try out the great tips in Nancy’s studio space so you can put your new skills into practice with helpful feedback.. You will work with simple yet effective types of lighting techniques to achieve different statements. There will be a review of camera handling techniques. \nThis workshop is for any level photographer who already knows the basics of how to operate their camera and is willing to explore new avenues of expression\, thoughts\, and approaches to their images.  This is not a beginning camera workshop. The goal is always to give you the ability and confidence to see differently on future shoots. The styling and food photography is only part of our story. You will also be learning how to do studio lighting from a pro. It is not difficult but there is a thought process that will be important to learn that includes a step by step plan to build a terrific still life or cookbook-ready photograph. Take the skills you will learn at this workshop and capture images of your own culinary creations\, perfect for sharing on social media or creating a self published book of family recipes! \nAlso included with be a discussion and hands on opportunity to work with ‘painting with light’\, a fun technique that is used to create one-of-a-kind images using only a simple flashlight to light your subject. \nThis lecture\, demo and hands-on workshop will help you gain confidence as you learn the secrets of composition\, lighting and shooting that can be applied to any type of photography in any situation. How to set up a successful composition\, different types of lighting techniques\, and white balance.  Most importantly\, a demonstration on how lighting affects the mood and communication of your photographs will be provided.  Lecture and demo will take place in a controlled studio environment with an opportunity for students to try out instructor-supplied lighting equipment\, props and techniques so you can put your new skills into practice.
