There will be daily photo-focused walking tours through Northumberland including Hadrian’s Wall\, the Lake District and North York Moors National Parks. The majority of places visited are considered the least populated and visited national parks of the country\, even though some of the most naturally beautiful. The lack of tourists stems from it being the furthest away from the major airports of the United Kingdom. \nThese top-rated locations combine the best mix of what makes this region so recognizable\, woodland\, lakes\, mountain peaks\, historical sites and coastline. Timing is everything. Your local guides will get you to the best locations for best available light and maximum visual appeal. It is not possible to see everything during each tour\, as we also like to take time for unscheduled stops. Your guides will plan each day considering the interests of the group\, and special events taking place during your time here. \nItinerary\nSeptember 28 HomeYour journey to England begins with an overnight flight to (NCL) Newcastle Upon Tyne Airport. Please note your flight will be booked multi-city\, into Newcastle and home from Manchester: Home/NCS and MAN/Home. (Meals on plane). \nPLEASE NOTE: Strabo has included all breakfasts and four dinners. Those that wish to get a take-out meal or have a meal on your own can do so for other dinners and all lunches. If the weather cooperates the group can stop at a local grocery store and enjoy a lunch or dinner outside. \nSeptember 29 Newcastle Upon Tyne\, EnglandCheck in time is approximately 3PM\, tonight’s hotel has been included to relax after the flight\, or perhaps go on a walk along the River Tyne or old town on your own. The Millennium Bridge can be an interesting photo op at dusk. The hotel can be reached via a taxi ride from the airport or contact Strabo Tours if you would like private transfer arranged. Overnight Newcastle Upon Tyne Hotel (Meals on own) \nSeptember 30 & Oct 1 Hadrian’s Wall and Northumberland National ParkLast night was to prepare for an early start this morning to photograph the amazing landscape and the historical Hadrian’s Wall. Travel to the great outdoors with highlights which include the region of Sycamore Gap\, Crag Lough\, Castle Nick\, Rapishaw Gap\, or perhaps one of the highest peaks – Sewingshield Crags. Continue on to the Northeast Coast for two evenings photographing the beautiful landscape amidst the least traveled park of England. Not for its lack of beauty\, simply because it is the furthest away from London and more populated areas. From your home base for these two evenings there will be photo ops along the coast of Holy Island of Lindisfarne\, explore the 9-acres of Bamburgh Castle\, up-close and from a distance with the long sandy beach in the foreground and surrounding sky. \nA visit to Northumberland would not be complete without a visit to the Victorian Cragside House\, gardens and woodland in Rothbury. One of the largest rock gardens in England leads down to a beautiful Iron Bridge and formal garden. Overnight Newton by the Sea (B\, D; B) \nOctober 2 North York Moors National Park – Whitby or Robin Hood’s Bay – Yorkshire Dales N.P.Depart early this morning and travel south to the lovely seaside villages of Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay. On the East Cliff of Whitby\, overlooking the North Sea\, is the ruined Gothic Whitby Abbey\, which was Bram Stoker’s inspiration for “Dracula”. Robin Hood’s Bay is a picturesque old fishing village along the Heritage Coast. Continue on through the North York Moors to just outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Photo stops along the way to your accommodation for the evening. Overnight Harrogate (B\, D) \nOctober 3 – 6 Lake District National ParkRise in time to be at the gate opening of the photogenic ruins of Fountains Abbey. The dramatic architecture is the largest monastic ruin in the country. Step back into a rich and dramatic past and immerse your camera and yourself into the age of the 1100’s when the Benedictine monks from York came to escape from the extravagance of the boisterous city style. Another beautiful site is a place referred to as Crackpot Hall. The abandoned 18th-century farmhouse lies in ruins near the village of Keld in Swaledale. \nContinue on after your morning shoots and enter the Lake District National Park. The Lake District is a magical region\, frequented by poets and artists alike. They have turned nature in to art. Enjoy four full days here amidst so many amazing landscapes. There is a reason William Wordsworth lived in various homes in the Cumbria District – never endinginspiration. Travel at a relaxed pace to immerseyourselves in the beauty. Nancy and your local guide will tap into these inspirational locations each day\, which you will each photograph in your own vision. Speaking of poet Wordsworth\, his last home\, just outside the lovely town of Ambleside\, is the lovely Rydal Mount and Gardens with beautiful views of Lake Windermere\, Rydal Water\, and surrounding woodlands. You can take an optional tour of the home or meander during your visit through the five acres of gardens\, amazing natural fells and paths Wordsworth designed himself. A beautiful view from a hilltop above Loughrigg Fell may present itself in good light just outside Ambleside. Lake Coniston is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the district with yet another lovely\, yet smaller village than the more famous towns in the region. Keswick in the Northern area of the lakes and Windermere\, in the South will certainly provide photogenic opportunities for your small group\, yet the majority of time the group will spend in the great outdoors landscapes. \nAnother day closer to Keswick is Castlerigg Stone Circle\, it is one of the earliest and the most dramatic of England’s stone circles\, with panoramic mountain views. Lowther Castle near Penrith is considered a ruin on a grand scale\, if open it will be worth a visit to the castle and gardens. Pooley Bridge is another famous site on Lake Ulswater where given proper weather conditions a traditional boat ride will be in order\, after all you are in the Lake District. \nThere are several museums and traditional arts and craft places to visit should there be inclement weather\, however yourguides prefer to have more outdoor photography in the tiny village of Hawkshead\, the home of Beatrix Potter with picture perfect squares\, quaint traditional buildings and architecture.Overnights Keswick (B\, D; B; B\, D; B) \nOctober 7 ManchesterEnjoy another morning in the wonderful landscapes of the Lake District\, photograph previously visited sites in different light or perhaps some lesser known places\, favorites of your local guide. Make your way south and west to the City of Manchester. Your driver will deliver you to your airport hotel\, where you will be on your own for the evening or perhaps join Nancy and others for a farewell toast to end the program. Overnight Airport Hotel (B) \nOctober 8 HomeEveryone can depart in time to check-in for their flight onward. There is a Skylink Walkway attaching the hotel to the airport\, in just a 10-15 minute walk. Nancy Ori is returning to France with another group of like-minded photographers and painters. We have expanded her previous itinerary to include other picturesque locations of Normandy. There will be daily photo or painting focused walking tours throughout the program. \nThis tour is designed for photographers and painters alike to join in the experience. Nancy enjoys the cross pollination that takes place during many of her workshops between painters and photographers. Both have much to learn from each other. Painters will be encouraged to sketch and photograph the compositions and colors so that they can express their vision when they return home. Photographers will do the same in their own format whether that be Large Format or Point & Shoot\, etc. Both type of artists look for the light\, shadows\, and shapes. Although there may not be time for studio-quality work in either format\, all will be able to take full advantage of your reason for leaving home in the first place: to see many wonderful views that are new to you and open all your senses to the experience. Large Format\, Point and shoot cameras or cell phone cameras will be great for you to capture lots of images to work with when you return home. \nThe history behind designing the itinerary is a tribute to Claude Monet\, a painter recognized today around the world as one of the most famous French Impressionists. His work can be viewed in museums and art galleries throughout the four corners of the world. Monet’s work was inspired and painted in Normandy. During his time in Paris\, he met Eugene Boudin\, a native of Honfleur who inspired to paint by the scenery and light conditions found on the Norman coast. \nMonet spent more than half of his life in the little village of Giverny surrounded by beautiful country scenes. It is possible today to visit the artist’s house to get an insight to the inspiration of this master painter. The gardens that he first landscaped\, he then spent half of his life painting\, notably of course… the Japanese bridge over the Water Lily Pond. \nTrip details:\nPre-Trip Orientation meeting\nAs with all my long distance trips\, we want to be certain that we work out as many preparation details as we can long before we depart. I will have a brunch meeting at my home studio to review our itinerary\, talk about equipment\, photography techniques and what to pack. It is always a great opportunity to meet many of the other fellow travelers so you can have more contact with each other beginning with this meeting and on your flight over. It also helps take some of the stress off of meeting everyone over there. \nSince most students will be from my database\, it is always easy to rally most of the participants for this potluck event. Those who live further away can Skype in (or Hang Out) and still be part of the main discussion. I consider this the first day of your workshop. We plan this meeting for an afternoon about a month before the trip so you have time to react to some of the tips you might hear and have all your questions answered. Date will be announced once we have some registrations and I can poll the group. It will be in the beginning of April on a Saturday or Sunday. \nNancy Ori\, photography instructor and experienced tour leader\nNancy Ori is respected internationally for over 35 years as a corporate photographer and enjoys teaching photography and other mixed media workshops. Nancy was affiliated for many years with the Ansel Adams Workshop in California and is now on the faculty in New Jersey at several museums. She curates about six group exhibits annually and enjoys exhibiting her award-winning work regularly. In 1990\, she established the NJ Heritage Workshops for Photography and Painting\, which she holds each spring in Cape May. And in 1995\, she founded and still directs the New Jersey Photography Forum\, a group of professional and serious amateur photographers that meet regularly to discuss their work and exhibit within the state. Under her direction\, the group has grown to be the oldest and largest group of fine art exhibiting photographers in the state. \nPhotographing in the West Coast tradition of her long-time mentor\, Ansel Adams\, Nancy expresses her own interpretation of landscape and architecture. Her photographs reveal a love of light\, shadow and form in the natural and man-made settings. They are powerful documentations of both the land and architecture expressing vulnerability and yet endurance. She is currently working on a series of abstract photographs she has made during the many tours she has done for Strabo globally over several years. \nNancy’s teaching style is casual and supportive\, but with great passion. One of her students sums it up nicely: “The workshop was wonderful\, and hard and fulfilling and really fun! As usual\, you were brilliant\, prepared\, encouraging\, insightful and organized. Thanks again for your passion and for all the fun and knowledge my annual “photography camp” puts in my life.” Carol A. \nNancy’s work has been widely published and exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the US and Europe. View her websites: www.nancyoriphotography.com or www.nancyorifineart.com For detailed information call her at 908-790-8820 or email her at nancyori@comcast.net \nItinerary\nTue May 10 Home\nYour journey begins with an overnight flight from home to Paris\, France. The tour is concentrating on your time photographing in Normandy with Nancy\, therefore if you would like to spend time in Paris visiting museums and other city sights\, you may wish to add on days on your own pre or post trip. \nWed-Thu May 11 & 12 Mont St-Michel Overnight Mont St Michel (13th: B\, D)\nDeparture time from the Paris airport (CDG) will be announced. Your driver for today\, will pick up the group and transfer you to Mont St-Michel today. There will be a photography stop along the way in Caen along with time for lunch. Caen is the third largest city in Normandy\, following Le Havre and Rouen. It was founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century. Please note the majority of your luggage will be left in Bayeux enroute to Mont St-Michel\, therefore only your camera gear\, personal items\, and clothes for these two evenings will need to be in carry-on size luggage. Since group accommodations are on Mont St-Michel it is necessary from the car park to take a shuttle on to the island and walk to hotel\, carrying your overnight luggage. Nancy will discuss the timing of your photography outings the next day\, taking advantage of high and low tides. \nAn unforgettable sight ~ The Mont Saint-Michel is one of Europe’s most amazing sights. Normandy meets Brittany in the bay it emerges from\, your eye is drawn to the island it is built on. You will have two chances for sunset and sunrise photography or painting. \nIf you wish you can take the same shuttle from the island to the mainland\, where you can walk to various vantage points to capture this beautiful structure rising from the sea or with the waves of sand in the foreground. Grab lunch at one of the many restaurants in town or the winding streets of the island.\n*Hotels on Mont St-Michel do not have elevators due to their historical significance\, therefore you will also need to be prepared to handle steps in the hotel as well as the island. \nFri-Sun May 13-15 Bayeux Overnight Bayeux (B\, D; B; B)\nYour driver and bus will pick you up at the car park this morning and transfer you to Bayeux\, where your left luggage will be at the hotel. Although it was the first large town liberated by the Allies in Normandy in 1944\, Bayeux escaped serious damage during the Second World War\, much to the delight of lovers of history. All different styles of architecture from antiquity through the Renaissance up to the modern day are represented in this town that was\, until the 11th century\, the capital of lower Normandy. The impressive cathedral which sits at the heart of this historic town was built between the 11th and 13th centuries. You can’t hear of Bayeux without mention of its famous tapestry\, an embroidered cloth over 200 feet long which tells the story of William the Conqueror. All within walking distance of the hotel. \nThe next day you will take a day trip to the D Day Beaches\, for a half day tour with the groups own personal guide. This will be a day of history and landscapes. Although this location is not about Monet\, it is an important addition to your workshop. Your guide will be passionate about the history and this region of Normandy and take you to the landing beaches themselves\, the inland battlefields\, the cemeteries of all three principal armies\, the museums\, and explain the stories and history behind each.\nYour last full day there will be a discussion meeting after breakfast. Shooting in historic center of Bayeux\, visit the museum with famous tapestry\, Cathedral and town. All within walking distance. Prepare for early departure tomorrow morning. \nMon-Tue May 16 & 17 Hon fleur – Etretat Overnight Etretat (B\, D; B)\nSitting on the estuary where the Siene River meets the English Channel\, is the historic seaport of Honfleur. Photograph at the old harbor where there are 16th to 18th century townhouses\, as well as picturesque fishing boats. Claude Monet and native son Eugene Boudin were regular artists painting along the Honfleur coastline and city. Enjoy lunch before re-boarding the bus to your final destination for the day Etretat beach area and town. \nDuring the 1880’s\, Monet made repeated visits to Etretat to draw by the sea. It had already been painted by Delacroix and Courbet. By the 1890’s Monet began producing his first series paintings here of the large rock arch on the beach. This series was done at different times of day and captured different kinds of light….his own form of white balance! There will be two opportunities for sunrise and sunset in this beautiful location\, again Nancy will discuss daily outings at dinner\, taking in to account low and high tides. \nOptional Tour: An optional tour that participants can take part in is a 2 hour boat tour from Fécamp to Etretat. Impressing chalk cliffs\, arches to pass underneath and rivers that run underground into the bay. The seas can be rough and may not be for everyone\, which is why it is an optional suggestion. You can capture some beautiful photography from a different perspective\, if the tides\, seas and light align. \nWed-Fri May 18-20 Rouen – Giverny Giverny (B\, D; B; B)\nMove on to Rouen this morning and photograph the lovely streets and the Cathedral where Monet did his famous series of paintings. Rouen was one of the greatest ports along the Siene becoming the capital of Normandy. If anyone has the interest there is a museum here in honor of Joan of Arc’s death in 1431\, it is located in the Archbishop’s Palace next door to the Cathedral. \nContinue on to Giverny\, after getting settled in Nancy will announce what time to meet and go over the town map\, and timing of your photography and painting outings. There will be a welcome dinner at the hotel with sunset being so late\, those with energy can venture out on your own.\nBegin early the next morning at the gardens working with Nancy amidst the Spring flowers. The bus tours from Paris will arrive late morning through early afternoon\, which is when you will take a break in town for lunch once the gardens get a bit crowded. After lunch return to the gardens for additional photography and painting. \nThe next day enjoy photography in town and go to the Impressionism Museum in Giverny to see wonderful examples of Monet and other Impressionist artists and spend the balance of the afternoon there and walking in the area. If possible\, before dinner Nancy will find a place to shoot along the river. \nWhile viewing the famous gardens we will draw parallels between the work of Monet as the gardener and of the artist. In each roll\, he studied\, cultivated and modified nature to show us beauty and mystery. Standing in his historic garden\, bathed in the magical light that he also worked in\, we will be inspired quite possibly in a way we have not yet experienced as photographers and painters. Overnight \nSat May 21 Paris – Home (B)\nThe flight time out from Paris will be announced as everyone will be transferred to the airport together. If you wish to extend your stay in Paris\, you can take transportation from the airport to the city center. Depending on your flight time this morning enjoy breakfast at the hotel. \nCovid-19 Update\nStrabo Tours is committed to continuing the wonderful photography/cultural programs that we have offered for almost 20 years. We are very committed to providing you with a safe journey and therefore have adopted new protocols for Strabo and our partners. The tour does not include any free time in Amsterdam. The city is filled with many museums and tourist activities. If you would like us to reserve additional evenings at the hotel to see the sights or just get over jet lag\, please email Strabo as soon as possible with approximate number of evenings. This is very busy time of year as you can imagine\, therefore we should arrange early to prevent having to stay at another hotel. Public transportation can be taken to the train station or private taxi can be taken to the hotel. \n*PLEASE NOTE: International airline ticket will need to be booked multi-city: Home/Amsterdam (AMS)\, Brussels (BRU)/Home. \nApril 17-18 Amsterdam (Overnight Amsterdam – none\, L)Arrive prior to 2PM. The first meeting will be in the hotel lobby at approximately 3PM. Depart to photograph idyllic Dutch villages\, with their old wooden houses and surrounding dykes. Marken and Edam\, the later known for its famous cheese market and old port. Driving further north to the smaller harbor of Enkhuizen\, before returning to photograph the windmills at Zaanse Schans\, providing a full portfolio of Dutch icons for any visitor. The next day enjoy breakfast on your own at various coffee shops within walking distance of the hotel. Your local guide will take you to the best places to photograph in Amsterdam\, away from the typical tourist sites. Photograph the quiet neighborhoods\, architectural reflections in the canals\, all creating a fairytale vibe. After an afternoon break at the hotel\, begin again as the whole place sparkles to life as a special atmosphere descends on the city. Capture the light trails of boats and the silky dreaminess of the canals with night photography techniques. Weather permitting – photograph the best place in Amsterdam for sunset. \nThe next morning depart via coach to the picturesque village of Giethoorn. Giethoorn is a very peaceful place\, such simple beauty that it hardly seems real. Walk past boats gliding along small canals\, and old but pretty thatched-roof farmhouses. See boats drift under a wooden bridge where an elderly resident may be going to see a neighbor. No this is not Venice\, or Amsterdam. It is too quiet\, too serene and remote. It is so calm that its nickname of the “Dutch Venice” may give a false impression of size and crowds and commercialism. \nApril 19-21 Lisse (Overnight Lisse – B\, D all days)The next morning depart via coach to the picturesque village of Giethoorn. \nReturn to the coach with your photo tour leader and travel south of Amsterdam to Lisse where you will prepare for a full day of photography tomorrow amidst the flowering bulbs. \nAlthough the weather can be unpredictable the tour has been timed around visiting the famous Keukenhoff Gardens\, staying within walking distance. Bicycles will be provided for those that would like to travel as the locals do. With almost 80 acres of gardens\, one could get memorized in the colorful seven million tulip bulbs that are planted each year in the park. The gardens have optional boat rental as well through the canals. Overnight Lisse \nApril 22-24 Brugge (Overnight Brugge – B\, D; B\, L; B)Depart Lisse this morning for a photography session at Kinderdijk Netherlands\, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring 18th century windmills. The village is a unique icon of the Dutch water management system. Waterways\, footpaths and bikeways crisscross the area\, leading to preserved working windmills. Continue on to Belgium for three days in the quintessential Brugge. Bruges or Brugge (Dutch)\, is almost a perfect medieval fairytale town. \nThe next day start early taking a boat ride along the canals\, getting off at various locations for photography. Your local guide will point out interesting details and give you facts on what you are seeing to help your shooting time along the way. You will be covering plenty of locations\, chasing the morning light. Reconvene with local guide as the day winds down\, see a city lost in time as the lights turn on\, it is simply a sight to behold. The cobbled lanes and canals link the market squares\, they are so picture perfect that you may find it difficult to put your camera away and absorb the beauty. The architecture\, with Gothic and Baroque buildings is truly jaw-dropping. \nYour last full day in Brugge enjoy a day trip to the quaint town of Damme. Damme is just 3.5 miles from Brugges\, transport via mini-bus or those that wish to bicycle can do so with bikes from the hotel. Cycling is a fantastic way to see some of the quaint Belgian countryside without having to travel far from the city\, the ride is mostly straight and flat. Damme’s rich history stretches back to the 12th century and was the site where Canadian troops fought to liberate Holland in World War II. \nApril 25 Brugge – Ghent – Brussels – Home (B)Those that want to capture more images early morning in Brugge may do so on their own\, and the group will then depart for a photography tour of Ghent. The City of Ghent is a university town and cultural hub. It is one of the most underrated\, picturesque medieval cities; it’s nothing short of spectacular. Sitting at the confluence of two rivers in the Flemish lowlands\, it boasts a non-auto center area flush with churches\, striking merchant houses\, squares\, and cobbled streets. Transfer to Brussels airport hotel for the evening. (B) \nApril 25 Brussels – Home (B)Depending on your flight time this morning enjoy breakfast at the hotel. There is a hotel airport shuttle for your departure. \nCOVID-19 Update \nStrabo Tours is committed to continuing the wonderful photography/cultural programs that we have offered for almost 20 years. \nItinerary\nSeptember 29 HomeYour journey to England begins with an overnight flight to (NCL) Newcastle Upon Tyne Airport. \nSeptember 30 Newcastle Upon Tyne\, EnglandCheck in time is approximately 3PM\, tonight’s hotel has been included to relax after the flight\, or perhaps go on a walk along the River Tyne or old town on your own. The Millennium Bridge can be an interesting photo op at dusk. The hotel can be reached via a taxi ride from the airport or contact Strabo Tours if you would like private transfer arranged. Overnight Newcastle Upon Tyne Hotel (Meals on own) \nOctober 1 & 2 Hadrian’s Wall and Northumberland National ParkLast night was to prepare for an early start this morning to photograph the amazing landscape and the historical Hadrian’s Wall. Overnight Newton by the Sea (B\, D; B) \nOctober 3 North York Moors National Park – Whitby or Robin Hood’s Bay – Yorkshire Dales N.P.Depart early this morning and travel south to the lovely seaside villages of Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay. Overnight Harrogate (B\, D) \nOctober 4-7 Lake District National ParkRise in time to be at the gate opening of the photogenic ruins of Fountains Abbey. \nThere are several museums and traditional arts and craft places to visit should there be inclement weather\, however yourguides prefer to have more outdoor photography in the tiny village of Hawkshead\, the home of Beatrix Potter with picture perfect squares\, quaint traditional buildings and architecture.Overnights Keswick (B\, D; B; B\, D; B) \nOctober 8 ManchesterEnjoy another morning in the wonderful landscapes of the Lake District\, photograph previously visited sites in different light or perhaps some lesser known places\, favorites of your local guide. Make your way south and west to the City of Manchester. Your driver will deliver you to your airport hotel\, where you will be on your own for the evening or perhaps join Nancy and others for a farewell toast to end the program. Overnight Airport Hotel (B) \nOctober 9 HomeEveryone can depart in time to check-in for their flight onward. There is a Skylink Walkway attaching the hotel to the airport\, in just a 10-15 minute walk. SUMMARY:Color Theory Lecture with Visual Arts Center - Online
DESCRIPTION:Color theory is a basic principle for all visual arts and it can be used to greatly enhance your photographs. Unlike painters who generally create their colors\, landscape and nature photographers basically find their colors. As such\, it is important to understand how to really see color\, especially what role light plays in the process of capturing\, manipulating and printing images. Knowing the physiological basis of color is also critical in understanding why some photographs are more successful than others. The goal of this lecture is to simplify the physics of light\, the physiology of vision\, and our perceptions of color and light in order to appreciate why we see color the way we do and how to use that knowledge to improve our photography. While this workshop is designed for photographers\, the principles discussed will benefit artists who work with color in any media. \nCLICK HERE

SUMMARY:On-Line Photo Encaustic Demo & Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Join Nancy for a fun afternoon of learning how to work with and think about layering your photographs using new and simple mixed media techniques. There will be a demonstration of several key techniques\, lots of great tips\, a lecture about the process with examples from contemporary artists\, and a look at how abstraction\, composition and wax can create amazing new pieces with your photographs. \nEncaustic uses heated beeswax and colors to create unique works of art.  An ancient medium that pre-dates oil painting\, encaustic enjoys new popularity today amongst photographic artists.  The process allows you to work in layers\, adding photographs & collage materials into the wax as you build your piece\, or you can simply cover a single photograph for a unique presentation.  Techniques like marking into the wax and filling the marks with color create varied surfaces and textures that cannot be duplicated with any other medium. \n“It’s not that often that you find a teacher who is completely open and forthcoming with their wealth of knowledge and ideas. Nancy’s photo encaustic workshop was so informative\, interesting\, and incredibly fun. I finished with a feeling of inspiration not only for my personal creative projects\, but new ideas for my photography business too. SUMMARY:Do You Want to Paint
DESCRIPTION:Unleash your inner artist with this fun-filled workshop that shows you how to create new art with our simple process of “brushless abstract painting.” Designed for photographers\, beginning painters or anyone else who wants to paint\,  you will become inspired to create pieces that will take your art to a new level. We will supply all the materials you will need for the day. \nBasic color theory will be discussed along with how to mix your paints to create infinite colors using three primary colors. You will mix your colors directly on the canvas and apply your paint with a palette knife. We will talk about the importance of composition and the elements of design. You will gain knowledge of the basic fundamentals of abstract painting and how to use shape\, form\, color\, and texture. \nAn added bonus in creating these paintings is how they can be integrated into a new piece of artwork\, used as a background in a still life photo\, or become the base for an image transfer. We will show you many examples of what you can do by expanding this process into one-of-a-kind pieces of mixed-media art. \nThere will be plenty of one-on-one time with two master artists who can tailor information to your interests and needs. We will talk about creativity and inspiration and the value of  learning how a simple process can add to your artistic vision. You will be stress-free while you have the opportunity to “learn by doing.” Expect to leave with an inspired imagination for future projects as well as some finished work. \n\nTUITION: $185\, All necessary art materials and tools will be supplied.\nINFORMATION AND REGISTRATION: 908-790-8820 or email Nancy Ori at nancyori@comcast.net — directions and more info will be sent upon registration\n\nPAYMENT TO:  Heidi Sussman and sent to124 Diamond Hill Road\, Berkeley Heights\, New Jersey\, 07922\nCANCELLATION:  A 50% refund will be issued for cancellations on or before 14 days before your workshop. I will show you what is important to know for the type of photographs you like to make and how to quickly think through the process. \nTo get further information please call the Passaic County Arts Center at 973.881.4833 \n  \n

SUMMARY:Northern Ireland Photo Tour $3795*
DESCRIPTION:Tour Highlights ~ A Photographic and Cultural Adventure \n\nNine days of photographing and instruction with accomplished photographer and tour leader Nancy Ori\, and local Irish guide.\nPhotograph the Belfast\, and the walled city of Londonderry/Derry\, with it’s award winning designed bridge at sunset.\nThe remote\, romantic peninsula of Donegal with fishing villages\, lighthouses and immense beaches.\nWorld Heritage Site of the Giant’s Causeway with basalt formations\, Carrick-a- Rede Island and rope bridge\, and the Dark Hedges (HBO’s Game of Thrones) of the Antrim Coast.\nTour limited to 12 participants for extra attention.\nEnjoy traditional Irish musicians at the local pubs.\nRelaxed and flexible itinerary to make the most of the photo opportunities that come our way.\n\n\n\n\nExplore and photograph Northern Ireland on this unique photo tour with Nancy Ori. Although the tour begins and ends in Belfast\, the itinerary also encompasses the Donegal Peninsula of Ireland. It is good to know that visitors can freely travel by road between Ireland and Northern Ireland without any concerns other than having some Sterling & Euro currencies with you. The six counties of Northern Ireland emerged from the shadow of The Troubles some time ago\, and now it’s actually difficult to know when you have even crossed the border. \nThis photo tour itinerary of the Donegal Peninsula\, Londonderry\, the Glen’s of Antrim\, & Giant’s Causeway opens up the discerning photographer to a combination of seascapes\, landscapes\, culture\, and ancient ruins. Donegal forms the northwestern corner of Ireland\, and is probably the least explored. Visit the fishing port of Killybegs\, Slieve League and Glencolumbkille\, an exceptionally peaceful and haunting place. The peninsula provides ample opportunity for documentary photography amidst these charming villages. \nNorthern Ireland boasts one world heritage site\, the world’s oldest distillery\, historic ruined castles\, and some of the most amazing landscape images. Your guides will navigate you to be at the right place at the right light. This is sure to be an unforgettable journey through the splendor\nthat is all of Northern Ireland. If you wish to extend your stay to explore Belfast further on your own\, please contact Strabo Tours and we would be pleased to offer some accommodation suggestions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nItinerary \n\n\n\n\nApril 26 Home – Belfast\nYour journey to Ireland begins with an overnight flight from the home to Belfast\, Northern Ireland. \nApril 27 & 28 Belfast – Londonderry/Derry\nMajority of flights land by 2PM\, should your airline of choice land later in Belfast\, please contact Strabo Tours as you may have to fly in one day early. Your tour begins as you depart Belfast Airport\, traveling northwest towards Londonderry (Ireland) or Derry (referred to by those from Northern Ireland). The city walls have never been breached\, you will explore the city sites as well as the outskirts. The Peace Bridge has become an icon of the city as it crosses the Foyle River. Guildhall represents amazing architecture with stunning stained-glass windows. From our accommodations\, weather and the right light permitting you will have a photo stop along the North Coast\, which is actually in County Donegal at either the Fanad Head or Stroove Lighthouse. Both provide breathtaking views along the coast. Overnight Londonderry (D; B) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nApril 29 & 30 Donegal Peninsula\nAfter breakfast the group will depart for the Donegal Peninsula. Donegal is known as a lesser-known region\, untouched and crying out for exploration. Nature abounds from the sheer granite walls of some of Europe’s highest sea cliffs at Slieve League\, but there is warmth and wit to be found among the vibrant\, Irish speaking communities. Given time you will travel to the immense beach at Inishowen. This journey will lift your spirits and present huge panoramas that will look different from every segment of the road we travel. Bright azure skies appear next to blue gray\, shafts of rain\, which bolt sea and sky together. Donegal Bay majestically swoops towards you\, with its quaint fishing villages and harbors. Overnight Donegal Peninsula (B\, D; B) \n\n\n\n\nMay 1-3 Antrim Coast – Giant’s Causeway \n\n\nReturn to Northern Ireland today as you drive along the North Coast past Londonderry. There will be a photo stop along dramatic coastline near the circular Mussenden Temple\, perched on a cliff edge high above Downhill Beach. The Hezlett House may provide another photo opportunity\, a picturesque late 17th century thatched cottage. A bit east is the Dunluce Castle. One of the jewels on the route\, this breathtaking castle ruin has inspired artists and writers such as C.S. Lewis. It is perched dramatically on the cliffs of the North Antrim Coast. \n\n\n\n\nEarly the next morning you will need a flashlight as you head to the Giant’s Causeway. \n\n\n\n\n\nNot be missed on any itinerary is this geological wonder which gives the route its name. The Giant’s Causeway is Northern Ireland’s only World Heritage Site\, famously steeped in myth and legend. Legend has it that it was built by Finn MacCool to reach a Scottish giant\, when he was challenged to a fight. Other photo opportunities present themselves at the remote Murlough Bay\, Carrick-a-Rede Island and bridge originally built by Salmon fishermen. There are several quaint villages\, which can be explored such as Portballintrae\, Ballintoy\, the hamlet of Portbradden with one of the smallest in Ireland\, and perhaps the friary at Bonamargy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYour last day here will be another early morning photo shoot at the Dark Hedges. The dark hedges of the HBO Game of Thrones series is an iconic archway of intertwining beech trees that has become one of Northern Ireland’s most photographed natural phenomena. You will arrive very early to avoid the later day crowds. Traveling to the East today explore Torr Head and photograph the quaint village of Cushendun. Nestled at the foot of Glendun\, one of the nine Glens of Antrim. Later in the day you will need to take a break at the heart of Northern Ireland – the oldest working distillery\, Bushmill’s. The finest Irish whiskeys have been produced here for over 400 years. Overnight Portballintrae (B\, D; B) \nMay 4 Belfast\nBefore returning to Belfast this afternoon\, there will be photo ops at Carrickfergus Castle. Discover one of the most imposing monuments and one of Ireland’s best-preserved medieval structures. After checking into the hotel\, enjoy a brief break before exploring and photographing the City of Belfast with your guides. Photograph the famous murals\, historical buildings such as the Titanic\, Parliament\, and Belfast Castle. Given the right weather conditions Castlereagh Hills or Cavehill may have spectacular views. Enjoy your farewell dinner before returning to the hotel.
