It’s easy to get into a rut with Photoshop—using the same approach with each image. Learn Some new twists. Surprise yourself with the results. Photoshop is so complex that most of us just stick to the parts we know and seldom take the time to explore other options. Take a day to learn some new techniques and applications. We’ll cover at least a dozen, so even if you know a few you will be sure to find something new:
- Use Lab Color conversions to make colors pop
- Employ HDR techniques to produce striking B&W images
- Sharpen the truly unsharp and soften the over-sharp
- Paint on a little color without losing image detail
- Add textures to increase visual interest and complexity
- Gain more control when burning and dodging
- Get two cracks at exposure by using Smart Objects
- Replace a blown out sky in a couple of steps
- Do overall color correction with 2 clicks
- Increase density using blending modes.
If you have a favorite technique, please come prepared to share. Bring your laptop and some images to work on.
