Set in the casual atmosphere of a private cottage within the historic district of Cape May, this workshop will provide insights into the use of film or digital equipment to capture the natural light of the many beautiful examples of Victorian architecture, spring gardens and shoreline scenes in and around Cape May, NJ. The goal of the workshop is to explore composition, lighting and lenses in the natural world as a form of creative expression. Florals, architecture, seascapes, and marsh land will be photographed at different times of the day to reveal the many colors and moods of light. Discussions will be on the camera and controls, lenses, and use of lighting to create a cohesive composition and mood, a discussion of HDR a more advanced lighting technique that is currently popular, using color for impact and cropping for emphasis. There will be daily trips to local landscapes followed by critiques of your work on your laptop. Tap into the expertise of a veteran shooter. There will be a balance of learning between the technical and creative aspects of photography. All levels are welcome.

There will be a wine and cheese reception to open the workshop. When everyone has arrived we will have a short orientation session followed by the first discussion. Each night we will have a session after dinner.  Upon receipt of the registration fee, participants will be sent a detailed schedule of activities, maps and suggestions for local lodging. Some reasonable rooms for rent are also available at the Cottage where the workshop is held on a first come, first served basis. Each participant will be responsible for his or her accommodations, meals and transportation. Spouses or adult guests are invited to all meals and field sessions. Children are not invited. No smoking or pets allowed at the Cottage.

Daytime activities will begin with a narrated walking tour from a photographer’s point of view through the historic area. The Victorian streets, shoreline, birds, fishing boats and spring blossoms of Cape May will supply each participant with an abundance of architecture, still life, nature and landscape possibilities. There will be plenty of time for shooting, critiques and instruction within the town of Cape May and the surrounding seashore areas. Shooters should bring laptops or iPads, if they have them, to view images.

The evening sessions will include discussions, critiques and instructor presentations. Contact Nancy Ori for an itinerary and registration info.
